Most anyone under the age of 40 with an active broadband connection has heard The Bed Intruder Song, the wildly popular and viral video that featured a local news interview set to an auto-tuner and a beat. As of writing this, the Bed Intruder Song has racked up over 103 million hits and, in reaching that ridiculous number, has created a new art form. The song even crossed over onto the Billboard Top 100, the first YouTube video to do so. The Gregory Brothers are the writers, producers, directors, and musicians behind the video and have followed up that hit with a stunning number of videos that will have you singing their catchy tunes and literally laughing out loud.
The Gregory Brothers often make their hits off of other viral videos on the Internet. For example, the infamous Double Rainbow guy has his own Gregory Brothers Hit:
And not even President Obama is immune to the musical and technical genius of the group
The story behind the Gregory Brothers are precisely why I love the Internet so much. Aside from keeping me insanely entertained on the off day or a rainy weekend, the Internet enables virtual nobodies to become virtual superstars. The Group now tours the country and is even in the act of producing a pilot for Comedy Central. Lets hope going mainstream doesn’t kill their creative vibe, but I’m excited to see the future of these Internet-created superstars.
